Getting started
LuLinDingo runs entirely on the device you open it on. There is no account to create, no email to confirm, and no password to remember. Nothing your child does gets sent anywhere. It also works offline, so a tablet on a plane or a phone with no signal is fine.
The first launch
When the app opens for the first time, it asks one thing: "What's your name?" Type the child's name (up to 20 characters) and tap Continue. That name is stored on the device and used to greet them. You can set up more than one child later if siblings share the same tablet.
Choosing a starting point
Next the app asks how to begin, and there are two ways to go.
The first is "Test my level". This runs a short placement quiz of eight questions that adjusts as your child answers, then picks a sensible starting point for them. If you are not sure where your child sits, this is the one to use. There is a full walkthrough in Placement test.
The second is "Choose my level". Pick this if you already know roughly where your child belongs and want to skip the quiz. You choose one of three levels:
- Starter, for ages 6 to 7
- Explorer, for ages 8 to 10
- Challenger, for ages 11 to 12
The level you choose sets where the lessons begin and how hard the early questions are. It is not locked in. As the app notes on that screen, you can change it later, so don't worry about getting it exactly right the first time.
After setup
Once you have picked a level, either by testing or choosing, the app drops your child straight onto their learning path and they can start the first lesson. That is the whole setup. No sign-up, no waiting, and their progress saves on the device as they go.
